What does Albuquerque mean?
The name "Albuquerque" derives from the Spanish "Alburquerque", which in turn comes from the Arabic word "al-burquerque" (البرقوق), meaning "the apricot tree". The name was given to the city by Spanish colonists in the 18th century, who were attracted to the area by the abundance of apricot trees.
