- Unfair treatment of Texians by the Mexican government:
Mexicans imposed many restrictions and taxes on the Texians, who were mostly white Americans and had come to Texas after Mexico won its independence from Spain in 1821.
- Slavery:
Texians were allowed to bring slaves to Texas, which was legal in the United States, but slavery was abolished in Mexico in 1829, and there was some fear that the Mexican government would try to free the slaves in Texas.
- Political power imbalances:
Texians were largely excluded from positions of power in the Mexican government and could not participate in many aspects of political life in Texas.
- Land distribution:
There were conflicts between the Mexican government and Texians over land grants, as Mexican authorities tried to reassert control over land granted by the previous Spanish colonial government.
