What signaled the end to foreign rule in mexico?

The end of foreign rule in Mexico came in 1821, when the country won its independence from Spain after three years of war between royalist troops sent from Spain and Mexican troops led by insurgents such as Miguel Hidalgo and José María Morelos. The conflict began with the Grito de Dolores led by Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla on 16 September 1810. On 24 August 1821, the Treaty of Córdoba was signed, establishing the independent Mexican Empire, with Agustín de Iturbide as its emperor.
