Why is there agriculture in the desert on Baja California Sur?

There is no major agriculture in the desert of Baja California Sur. Around the capital city of La Paz, there is some small scale agriculture focused on tomatoes and other vegetables for the local market, but beyond that there is very little because of the lack of water.
