Why did the coup led by Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana anger Anglo-Texans and tejanos?
Antonio López de Santa Anna's rise to power in Mexico alarmed many Tejanos as well as Anglo-Texans. One source of anxiety was Santa Anna's reversal of several reforms instituted by the previous Mexican administration (under Guadalupe Victoria), which had granted increased self-government to Mexican states like Coahuila y Tejas, where most Texans resided. Texan settlers feared losing the substantial amount of local control they enjoyed, in addition to other rights assured to them under the Mexican Constitution of 1824.
