Which U.S. States Border the Gulf of Mexico?

Five States Share the Gulf Coastline

The Gulf of Mexico borders the following five U.S. states, listed from east to west:

  1. Florida – The panhandle and western peninsula form a long, curved coastline.
  2. Alabama – A relatively short but economically vital stretch (Mobile Bay).
  3. Mississippi – Includes the Mississippi Sound and barrier islands.
  4. Louisiana – Complex deltaic coast with vast wetlands, bayous, and the Mississippi River Delta.
  5. Texas – Long coastline featuring bays (Galveston, Corpus Christi) and barrier islands (Padre Island).

Together, these states account for over 1,600 miles of U.S. Gulf shoreline, supporting major ports, fisheries, tourism, and energy industries.
