Wanderlust World Wanderlust World Kōura (Māori for freshwater crayfish) inhabit the upper and middle reaches of New Zealand rivers and streams. They shelter under rocks in shallow, gravel-bottomed pools and runs where water is cool, well-oxygenated, and flow is moderate. These nocturnal omnivores feed on algae, detritus, and small invertebrates. Their presence indicates good water quality, making them important bioindicators.
