Does the Amazon Rainforest Reach Rio de Janeiro?

No—They’re Worlds Apart

The Amazon rainforest does not extend to Rio de Janeiro. The Amazon basin occupies northern South America (Brazil’s North and Center-West regions, plus eight other countries). Rio de Janeiro lies on the southeastern coast, over 1,500 miles (2,500 km) away, in the Atlantic Forest biome—a distinct, highly endangered ecosystem.

Confusion sometimes arises because both are iconic Brazilian landscapes, but they are separated by vast distances and different climates.
