It was built in 1782 and has been restored to its original condition. The monastery is also a beautiful building. It was built in 1784 and served as a home for the Franciscan friars who ran the mission. The cemetery is located behind the church. It contains the graves of many of the mission's early inhabitants. The museum is located in the mission's former granary. It contains exhibits on the history of the mission and the life of Father Junípero Serra.
