The Best Place to Retire in Mexico

Mexico recently topped International Living's list of the best retirement locations because of its affordable housing, beautiful beaches and superb weather. The beaches, golf courses and easygoing lifestyle is drawing retirees to Mexico from around the world. But there are some areas in Mexico that are just above the rest in terms of retirement value and activities: Guaymas, Veracruz and Cabo.
  1. Guaymas

    • Guaymas is a fishing town on the Pacific coast of Mexico, which offers a comfortable living style for those wishing to retire. The climate is comfortable, and it's just a ferry ride away from California so retirees can easily shuffle back and forth. Guaymas also has amazing restaurants for seafood lovers and a very relaxed and laid-back atmosphere. The area retains the charm of Mexico, so if you love the Mexican culture you will love Guaymas.

    Veracruz

    • The city of Veracruz sits on the Gulf Coast. It has beaches and mountains, and is a major port so there's a bustling population and many different cultural influences. You can find terrific Spanish food next door to a Caribbean restaurant. The area has hiking trails, secluded beaches and plenty of shopping, but still maintains a great deal of traditional charm. This is a location for a true nature lover.

    Los Cabos

    • While many people consider Cabo San Lucas just a party town, the areas and towns around it are quiet and relaxed. They offer the perfect retirement destination for couples who still love the nightlife but also enjoy the calm of a more rural beach. Clubs, bars and tourist attractions are a dime a dozen in this area, and it's a great destination for retirees who like to stay active day and night. There are golf courses, fishing expeditions and snorkeling during the day. By nightfall the area falls into party mode with great cafes, eateries and lounges. It is the perfect mix of leisure and nightlife.
