The Best Remote All-Inclusive Beaches in Mexico

You can find many beaches in Mexico that are secluded havens and have been designated by the Mexican government as reserves, with little or no development permitted. However, in some of these secluded areas Fonatur (the Mexican Tourism department) has allowed a few resorts to build, provided they follow ecological regulations. For many years, some of these areas only had a Parador (state-owned hotel with basic services) or nothing at all. Now visitors can enjoy the natural beauty of a secluded beach with all of its bio-diversity and wildlife, but also have some comforts and activities usually found in a normal tourist location. The only amenity you may have a hard time finding in some of these resorts is phone service, so be sure to ask when you make reservations.
  1. Holbox Island-Villas Paraiso del Mar

    • According to Frommers, Holbox is fast becoming popular as a remote getaway. This island lies in the Mexican Caribbean just north of Yucatan. It is separated by the Laguna Yalahau. To get there, you have to take the ferry or a private boat from the Chiquita port in Cancun. The island is only inhabited by a few fishermen. On a stroll through the village, you will see the fishermen's huts with hammocks swinging from verandas and a few passersby with fish swinging from their shoulders. A couple of local restaurants offer fresh fish. There are 46 rooms and bungalows; 28 are junior suites and 12 are family suites, the others are standard single or double rooms. All rooms have air-conditioning, in-room safes, refrigerator, satellite TV, telephone, and indoor and outdoor showers.
