Major hurricanes have tried several times to destroy the city of Galveston, Texas. However, the courage and tenacity of the residents pushes them to continue rebuilding and moving forward. Galveston, with its pristine collection of preserved Victorian buildings and 32 miles of Gulf Coast beach, is open and welcomes tourists to visit.

    • East Beach is the largest public beach in Texas

      As the name implies East Beach is on the eastern side of Galveston. It is the largest public beach in Texas and the home to most of Galveston's beach front activities. East Beach caters to the younger crowd with offerings of live concerts, outdoor promotions, parties and beach contests. The beach has room for 7000 cars and charges each a small fee to get in. Hours of operation vary with the season and the weather. Beach chair and umbrella rentals are available during the summer months.This is one of the few beaches in Texas where alcohol is legal, so please visit responsibly.

    Stewart Beach

    • Stewart Beach offers family friendly activities

      For those who prefer a beach with more family friendly events, Stewart Beach is the perfect destination. Located in town near the east side of the seawall, the beach offers visitors sandcastle contests and volleyball tournaments during the summer months. The park section of the beach has playgrounds, picnic areas, beach rentals, a snack bar, souvenir shop and bathhouse. Wedding receptions and other social events are frequently held at the Stewart Beach Community Room, which can be reserved by contacting the Park Manager. A small per car fee is charged to beach visitors.

    Galveston Island State Park

    • Wildlife and native plants can be seen on Galveston Island State Park

      Coming back from the damages caused by Hurricane Ike, Galveston Island State Park is located on the west end of Galveston away from the areas protected by the seawall.This beach will appeal to those who prefer a more natural beach experience. Island plants, wildlife and shore birds are here for the viewing. The Beachside Day Use Area and some of the camping areas are open for visitors. Picnic tables, grills, outdoor showers and portable rest rooms are in place. A small per vehicle fee is charged upon entry.
