While often overlooked, Texas has more than 600 miles of shoreline and an array of pristine beaches with diverse ecosystems. From vibrant coastal resorts to remote nature preserves, Texas offers a range of beach environments for different outdoor activities. Although many of the beaches are not ideal for swimming, there are a number of seaside locations with perfect conditions to dive in the waves.

    South Padre Island

    Port Aransas

With a rich history filled with legends, the island was named for its population of wild horses and was a favorite resting spot for pirates. Swimmers and outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy uncrowded, white sandy beaches and an average temperature of 71 degrees Fahrenheit. Other outdoor activities include surfing, jet skiing, kiteboarding, kayaking and observing more than 500 species of birds.
