Why are the flags of Chile and Texas similar?

The flags of Chile and Texas are not similar. The flag of Chile consists of two equal horizontal bands of white (top) and red; there is a blue square in the canton that bears a white five-pointed star in the center. The flag of Texas consists of one white star on a field of blue in the corner with two equal horizontal stripes, white top and red bottom.
