The ascent of Adam's Peak (Sri Pada) from the trailhead at Dalhousie (Nallathanniya) is one of Sri Lanka's most iconic pilgrimages. The journey covers approximately 6.5 kilometers (4 miles) and involves climbing roughly 5,200 steps.
The well-maintained concrete and stone stairway winds through cloud forest and tea plantations. Most pilgrims and hikers begin the ascent around midnight or 2:00 AM to reach the summit for the spectacular sunrise. The climb takes 2–4 hours depending on fitness. The summit hosts a small Buddhist shrine containing the "Sacred Footprint"—venerated by Buddhists as the Buddha's, by Hindus as Shiva's, by Muslims as Adam's, and by Christians as St. Thomas's—making it a rare multi-faith holy site.
