Azusa Night Clubs

Azusa is a quaint college town in southern California just to the north of Los Angeles. It's surrounded by the San Gabriel Mountains and the Angeles National Forest, which contains over 500 miles of hiking and biking trails. Work up a sweat paddling or swimming the two nearby lakes (Pyramid and Castaic), then re-enter the city by night to take advantage of the nightlife. There are a couple of low-key clubs in Azusa proper, but the locals' favorite spots are in nearby West Covina, about seven miles away.
  1. Red Room

    • By day, this club is known as Seafood Bay; after 9 pm, it transforms into the Red Room. The dance floor is filled Friday and Saturday nights by the 21-and-over crowd; women get in with no cover charge before 10:30 pm. If you arrive even earlier (before 10 pm), you can take advantage of drink and appetizer specials. The house DJs spin tunes ranging from hip-hop to Latin to top 40. Separate elevated VIP areas offer private bottle service. The vibe is more casual midweek when the crowd is 18 and over. Drop by on Sunday nights for a live local band. The dress code calls for no flip flops, caps, tennis shoes or work boots. Open Tuesday through Saturday until 2 am; Sunday until 9 pm.

    Crazy Horse Restaurant & Nightclub

    • This is the second location for Crazy Horse, opened after a two-year hiatus following the Irvine location's closure. As a dance club, it's got plenty of space to spread out: two dance floors, three bars and a patio. Entertainment ranges from live bands to house DJs blasting R&B, hip-hop, reggae and classic '80s tunes. Only those 21 and over are allowed, and there's a strict dress code on Friday and Saturday nights (dress shoes only, men, and no baggy clothes or head/neck tattoos). VIP service includes a private curtained room and bottle service, but you'll need to create your private VIP guest list by contacting the club in advance (there's also no VIP cover if you get there before 10:30 pm). Even if you're not springing for VIP service, email the club by 6 pm to get on the guest list; it gets you in free, saving you the $20 cover charged to walk-ups. Open Tuesday through Sunday.

    Margarita Jones Restaurant & Nightclub

    • One of three Margarita Jones locations, this West Covina spot is a Mexican restaurant by day and Latin-themed club by night. With two dance rooms, you can choose your music; selections are usually divided into top 40/house/trance/hip-hop and reggaeton/bachata/salsa/cumbia. It's an 18 and over crowd, which gives the local college students something to smile about. It also makes the party a little louder and more raucous than other area nightclubs. Open 8 pm to 2 am; admission is free before 10 pm.
