A megacity is a metropolitan area with a total population of more than 10 million people. As of 2020, the New York metropolitan area had a population of over 23 million people, making it the most populous metropolitan area in the United States. The metropolitan area includes New York City, as well as parts of New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania.
