Nauru: One Island, Zero Mainland Regions

Nauru (21 km², pop. ~12,500) is a single raised coral atoll in the central Pacific. It has no "mainland regions"—the entire country is one island.

Administrative Subdivisions

14 districts (Aiwo, Anabar, Anetan, Anibare, Baiti, Boe, Buada, Denigomodu, Ewa, Ijuw, Meneng, Nibok, Uaboe, Yaren) grouped into 8 constituencies for parliament. No states, provinces, or regions.

Geography in Brief

  • Phosphate plateau (Topside) — mined out, 80 % barren pinnacles.
  • Coastal belt — where everyone lives.
  • Buada Lagoon — only freshwater body.
  • No rivers, no mountains (highest: Command Ridge, 71 m).

Nauru is a microstate defined by its coastline, not internal regions.
