Far Rockaway: Queens' Coastal Peninsula Neighborhood

Far Rockaway occupies a narrow peninsula in southeastern Queens, New York City. Bordered by Jamaica Bay (north), the Atlantic Ocean (south), Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge (east), and Rockaway Point/Fort Tilden (west), it maintains a distinct seaside character.

The area comprises several residential communities—Bayswater, Edgemere, Arverne, and Far Rockaway proper—with a mix of public housing, private homes, and beachfront developments. The Rockaway Boardwalk, city beaches, and surf culture define daily life. The A train's terminal provides subway access, though the neighborhood remains somewhat isolated, fostering a tight-knit community identity.
