  1. Fort Smith

    • Fort Smith, located along the Arkansas River between the Ouachita and Ozark Mountains, boasts an interesting history complete with an Old West atmosphere said to have inspired famous books and movies about life in the West such as True Grit. Here, tourists can also take a look into the state's oldest symphony orchestra and theater that are still running today. "Forbes" magazine declared Fort Smith, which began as a military outpost in 1817, the No. 1 American city to live in due to its cost of living.

    Little Rock

    • Little Rock, the capital city of Arkansas, bustles with the business and politics of the state. It offers attractions such as the Old Mill, a grist mill seen in the movie "Gone With The Wind," and other historic mansions and buildings. Tourists can also visit the Arkansas State Capitol, a smaller-scale replica of the nation's capitol that offers everyone a look into its inner workings.     • Bentonville is a small town located in the Ozarks Region of Arkansas. This little city, known as the place where Wal-Mart really began, is home to the company's international headquarters. The town draws in thousands of people each year to visit its town square complete with a Wal-Mart visitors' center, constructed in the original variety store location opened by Wal-Mart founder Sam Walton many years ago.
