History

The Hampshire pig is a breed of domestic pig that originated in England. It is believed to have been developed in the 19th century by crossing the Old English Black pig with the Wessex Saddleback pig. The Hampshire pig was introduced to the United States in 1832 and quickly became a popular breed for meat production. Today, the Hampshire pig is still a popular choice for meat production, but it is also kept as a show pig and pet.
