Arrange your transportation. Dunedin is located in Pinellas County, just north of Clearwater Beach and west of Tampa. The nearest airports are the St. Petersburg International Airport and Tampa International Airport, both within easy driving distance of downtown Dunedin. Flying into either airport, you can rent a car, hire a cab, or take one of the private airport shuttles to carry you to your hotel. If you plan to drive, US 19 is the closest major highway to Dunedin, with I-275 and I-75 also close.
Book your hotel. There are many choices for hotel accommodations both in the city and surrounding area. Holiday Inn Express and Best Western operate the only chain hotels within the city limits, with both locations about one block from the downtown area. There is also a B&B and several privately owned hotels downtown. See the link to the Dunedin Merchants Association in the resources section for more information. For a wider selection, consider the neighboring cities of Clearwater and Palm Harbor.
Hit the beach. Although Dunedin may not be as well known as Clearwater Beach, the beaches are just as beautiful. Both Caladesi Island and Honeymoon Island offer white sand beaches that can be found on nearly any "Best of" listing. With a slightly lower profile, you won't have to fight the crowds.
Enjoy the local culinary scene. Dunedin boasts many quality eateries, featuring a wide range of dining choices. In the downtown area alone, you can choose from classic French cuisine, Italian, authentic Mexican, seafood, and some of the best ice cream in the area. You can even find a real Irish pub, martini bar, coffee house, microbrewery, and great barbecue. Check out the food listing on the Downtown Merchants Association website for contact information.
Explore the Pinellas Trail. Covering more than 34 miles, this unique local attraction follows the route of an old CSX rail line, which cut through downtown Dunedin. This paved trail offers a great place for hiking, walking, skating, or bicycling, with equipment rental locations in many locations along the trail. It is open from dawn until dusk and is patrolled by State Park Rangers for safety.
