Midwest vs. Great Lakes Region: Overlap but Not Identical

The Midwest comprises 12 states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin.

The Great Lakes Region includes the five Great Lakes and surrounding areas, encompassing eight U.S. states (the six above plus Pennsylvania and New York) and the Canadian province of Ontario.

Overlap: Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin belong to both. However, the Midwest extends further west into the Plains, while the Great Lakes region extends northeast into Canada and New York/Pennsylvania.
