Mountain Ranges Around the Great Salt Lake
Three main ranges flank the Great Salt Lake:
- Wasatch Range: Eastern shore; 160 mi long, part of Rockies. Highest: Mount Nebo (11,928 ft).
- Oquirrh Mountains: West of lake, parallel to Wasatch. 40 mi long. Highest: Deseret Peak (9,712 ft).
- Stansbury Mountains: Western shore. 20 mi long. Highest: Deseret Peak (6,296 ft).
These ranges create the lake's basin and influence its climate and ecology.
