The Ozark region of Arkansas, which is in the northern portion of the state, has the largest share of funny named places. Goobertown is located on Highway 358 between the larger towns of Paragould and Brookland. The town of Monkey Run is located near Bull Shoals Lake in Baxter County. Some other places with unusual names in this region of the state include Mozart, Possum Grape and Rambo Riviera.
The Mississippi River, which forms the Easter border of the state, is located in the Delta region of Arkansas. The town of Crumrod is located approximately a mile away from the river itself and the state border of Mississippi. Stinking Bay is a town located about 20 miles away from the river, directly on the edge of the White River Wildlife Refuge. Turkey Scratch is the name of a road crossing in Philips County.
The central region is the site of the capital, Little Rock. It also contains the town of Toad Suck, which is on the Arkansas River. Toad Suck shares its name with the Toad Suck Daze, an annual arts and music fair in nearby Conway. River Valley and Ouachitas are in the central eastern portion of Arkansas. Some other funny named places in these three regions are Stumptoe and Thrasher.
The Timberlands region forms the southern border of the state. It is the location of the town of Okay, which is on Millwood Lake about about 20 miles north of the Texas border. Scrouge Out is the name of a road outside Monticello. Smackover is a town located in Union County with a population of nearly 2,000. It's the home of the Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources.
