The Best Places to Live for Temperatures

When it comes to the ideal temperature, everyone has an opinion. While some like the blazing hot sun, others prefer the shade. Others long for the winter so they can get out and play in the snow. Still others like to follow the seasons so they can find the temperatures they want all year around.
  1. Spring

    • Because of the altitude, Kumming in southern China is known as "spring city." The average temperature is 60 degrees F., with highs of 66 to 71 and lows of 42 to 46. Another city known for its spring-like weather all year around is Quito, the capital of Ecuador. Although it is only 15 miles from the equator, at 9,400 feet above sea level, the day-time temperatures are in the 70s, and drop to 40 to 50 in the evenings.

    Summer

    • If you like it hot, move to Arizona. In Yuma, the average high in July is 106.5, followed by Avondale and Chandler at 105.1. Extreme Science reports that the highest reported air temperature, which is less than the ground temperature, was 136 degrees in El Azizia in 1922. Death Valley is a close contender at 134 degrees in 1913.

    Fall

    • Although Quebec City has the occasional heat wave in July and blizzard in winter, the temperatures begin cooling off in late August. Trip Advisor reports that spring comes slowly and temperatures in April and May come in at about 50 to 60 degrees F. If you don't want to learn to speak French, head for San Francisco. Although the temperatures can vary depending which end of the Golden Gate Bridge you are on, the average range for the year is 40 to 90 F.

    Winter

    • Not for the faint-hearted, the coldest place in the world is Vostok Station in Antarctica. The temperature gets as low as minus 128.6 F., so it is no wonder that it is only inhabited by seals and penguins for about half of the year. Oymyakon and Verkhoyansk, both villages in Siberia, have average winter temperatures of minus 96 and minus 93.6 respectively. According to Top 10 List, even petrol, ink and electronics freeze at these temperatures.
