Tip well. If you treat your servers with respect and tip them for a job well done, you will have excellent service and this will definitely make your stay more enjoyable.
Go during the "off" season. Mid-December to April are the months with the fewest travelers. This can be to your advantage whether it be getting better service or getting a rate-cut because there are fewer people.
Do not drink the tap water. Bottled water is a better choice when traveling to a foreign country.
Take a taxi or transportation arranged through your hotel. Bus systems can be confusing to tourists who are not fluent in the language.
Stay away from public housing complexes and shanty towns. These areas are unsafe and have higher crime rates.
Do not take any photos of children without asking permission. This can cause problems with the locals.
Be polite to people and do not draw too much attention to yourself.
Latin Festivals are abundant in Puerto Rico. This can be a fun thing to experience during your trip to Puerto Rico. Beware of visiting in January and July though. These months both have four official holidays each and you may run into the problem of many restaurants, shops, and other businesses being shut down during these holidays.
