Where are the largest deserts located?

Deserts are regions that receive very little rainfall, typically less than 250 millimetres (10 inches) per year. They are characterised by sparse vegetation, limited water resources, and extreme temperatures.

Antarctica is the largest desert in the world, covering an area of approximately 14.2 million square kilometres (5.5 million square miles). Although it is covered in ice, Antarctica meets the criteria of a desert due to its extremely low precipitation levels.

The Sahara Desert in Northern Africa. Is about 9.4 million square kilometres (3.6 million square miles). Covering parts of Algeria, Chad, Egypt, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Sudan and Tunisia.

The Arabian Desert, covers Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Yemen, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, United Arab Emirates. Approximately 2.6 million square kilometres (1 million square miles).

Atacama Desert 1 in Northern Chile and a small part of Southern Peru approximately 98,000 square kilometer (38,000 sq mi) covering part of Northern Chile's Antofagasta and Atacama Regions

The Gobi Desert, is a large region of desert and steppe in northern China and southern Mongolia approximately 1.3 million square kilometres(0.5 million square miles).
