The New Seven Wonders of the World: The 2007 List That Still Stands

In 2007, the New7Wonders Foundation announced a modern list of Seven Wonders of the World, chosen by global vote from 200 existing monuments. All seven remain standing today:

1. Great Wall of China (China) – Built 5th century BC – 16th century AD; stretches over 13,000 miles.
2. Christ the Redeemer (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) – Completed 1931; 98-ft Art Deco statue atop Corcovado Mountain.
3. Chichén Itzá (Yucatán, Mexico) – Maya city flourishing 600–1200 AD; iconic El Castillo pyramid.
4. Roman Colosseum (Rome, Italy) – Completed 80 AD; largest ancient amphitheater, held 50,000+ spectators.
5. Machu Picchu (Cusco Region, Peru) – 15th-century Inca citadel abandoned during Spanish conquest; rediscovered 1911.
6. Great Pyramid of Giza (Giza, Egypt) – Built c. 2560 BC; oldest and only surviving Ancient Wonder; originally 481 ft tall.
7. Petra (Ma'an Governorate, Jordan) – Nabatean capital carved into rose-red cliffs, 1st century BC – 1st century AD.

Note: The Great Pyramid was granted honorary status as the only remaining Ancient Wonder. These sites represent extraordinary human achievement across cultures and eras, and all are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
