Dallas, Texas Is in the South, Not the Midwest
Dallas is in the South Central United States—specifically the North Texas region. It is not part of the Midwest.
U.S. Census Regions
- South: TX, OK, AR, LA, MS, AL, GA, FL, SC, NC, VA, WV, KY, TN, MD, DE, DC.
- Midwest: IL, IN, IA, KS, MI, MN, MO, NE, ND, OH, SD, WI.
Why Dallas Feels Different from the Deep South
- Prairie/plains geography (transition to Great Plains).
- Cowboy/Western heritage + oil/tech economy.
- Less "Old South" plantation culture; more Sun Belt boomtown.
But politically, culturally, and statistically, Texas is a Southern state. Dallas is its third-largest city.
