Landforms of the South Texas Brush Country
The South Texas Brush Country features a diverse terrain:
- Rolling Plains: Elevations of 500–1,000 feet, covered in dense vegetation.
- Mesas and Buttes: Flat-topped mountains (mesas) and smaller isolated hills (buttes) with steep sides.
- Canyons and Arroyos: Deep, narrow valleys carved by water; canyons are larger than arroyos.
- Desert Scrub: Thorny bushes and cacti adapted to hot, dry conditions.
- Rivers and Lakes: Including the Rio Grande, the region’s longest river, forming the Texas–Mexico border.
