The Only Two Landlocked Countries in South America
South America has exactly two landlocked nations:
- Bolivia – lost Pacific coast to Chile in War of the Pacific (1879–1884); accesses ports via Chile, Peru, Brazil, Argentina agreements.
- Paraguay – landlocked since independence; river access (Paraná/Paraguay Rivers) to Atlantic via Argentina/Uruguay.
All other 10 South American countries have coastline.
