South Australia (RSA) Is Not a Country and Will Not Host the Olympics
RSA in an Olympic context stands for Republic of South Africa—not "Republic of South Australia."
Clarifications
- South Australia is a state within the Commonwealth of Australia. It has no sovereignty and cannot host the Olympics.
- Australia (the nation) has hosted twice: Melbourne 1956 and Sydney 2000. Brisbane 2032 is confirmed.
- South Africa (RSA) has never hosted the Summer or Winter Olympics. It bid for 2004 (lost to Athens) and 2020 (withdrew). No future bid announced.
Why the Confusion?
"RSA" is the IOC country code for South Africa (from French République d'Afrique du Sud). South Australia's abbreviation is SA (postal) or AUS-SA (ISO 3166-2).
So: South Australia will never host the Olympics. South Africa (RSA) has not yet hosted and has no confirmed future Games.
