What did the fall of new Orleans and control Mississippi river mean to south?

Control of New Orleans and The Mississippi River meant the American's were able to gain access West by going further up the river and gaining access and eventually annexing the western half of North America (including Oregon Country, The Mexican Cession , Texas, Louisiana-Missouri Territories and Alaska ) for America .

Strategic Value.

Both the new Orleans and Mississippi gave great military and commercial value with control of major trading and military center of Americas south ( especially for southern cotton exports) giving Americans significant edge and the beginning if their rise as great power at that time period
