  1. Goose Creek Diner

    • This casual, neighborhood diner serves hefty platters of standard breakfast fare at wallet-pleasing prices. The dining room looks more like a school cafeteria with its bare, white walls and in-the-ceiling fluorescent lights. But Louisville locals and visitors alike come for its straightforward service and homemade fare. The Goose Creek special (under $6 in 2010), with two pancakes, two eggs, bacon or sausage and a biscuit or toast, is a top seller. Diners can create their own three-egg omelettes or choose other specials, like the country fried steak platter, grilled pork chop with eggs and hash browns or the fried egg sandwich. The restaurant is open weekends for breakfast. A buffet brunch is served on Sundays, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

    • Owner Jeffrey Rothberg is carrying on his farming family's tradition of hearty, homemade breakfasts to start the day out right. Rothberg uses his family's recipe for the buttermilk pancakes; guests may order them with cherry preserves, blueberries or with bananas and peanut butter syrup. Biscuits and gravy, homemade granola and oatmeal and wild berry crepes are specialties. French toast can be ordered stuffed with cream cheese, blueberries and strawberries. Egg dishes are the mainstay of the menu. Diners can try the Creole omelette with rock shrimp and andouille sausage, the green chili cheddar corn cakes topped with chorizo and poached eggs, or the wild mushroom and roasted garlic scramble.
