Why Rhode Island colony come to exist?

Roger Williams founded the Rhode Island colony in 1636 because of religious freedom. He was expelled from the Massachusetts Bay Colony for his opinions, which were considered to be heretical. He believed in the separation of church and state and thought individuals should be free to worship as they pleased. He also protested against the colony's taking of Native American lands without compensation. William's colony was one of the first in America to offer religious freedom to all its citizens, and it became a haven for those seeking to escape religious persecution.
