Location of the Chūgoku Mountains in Japan

The Chūgoku Mountains run east-west across the southern part of Honshū (Japan's main island), forming the "backbone" of western Honshū. They span prefectures including Hiroshima, Okayama, Tottori, Shimane, and Yamaguchi, covering about 92% of Japan's land area in that region. The range includes Mount Daisen (1,729 m) and influences climate, separating the San'in (Sea of Japan) and San'yō (Inland Sea) regions.
