Who was the first people in Singapore?

Archaeological evidence suggests that the first inhabitants of Singapore were the Orang Laut, a seafaring people who arrived in the area around 1000 BC. They were followed by the Malays, who arrived in the 13th century and established the city-state of Singapura in 1299. The city was later conquered by the Portuguese in 1511, and then by the British in 1819. Singapore became an independent city-state in 1965.
