Wanderlust World Wanderlust World Article 21 (1) of the Constitution of Singapore vests the executive power of Singapore in the President, but this power is exercised by the Cabinet or any Minister authorised by the Cabinet, except for the powers to:
* Appoint the Prime Minister and other Ministers: The President is responsible for appointing the Prime Minister and the other Ministers of the Cabinet, based on the advice of the Prime Minister.
* Dissolve Parliament: The President has the power to dissolve Parliament, either at the request of the Prime Minister or in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution.
* Exercise the Prerogative of Mercy: The President has the power to grant pardons, reprieves, and remissions of sentences for offences against Singapore law.
* Declare War and Peace: The President, acting in consultation with the Cabinet, has the power to declare war and peace.
* Make Treaties: The President, acting in consultation with the Cabinet, has the power to make and ratify treaties with other countries.
* Issue Orders and Regulations: The President has the power to issue orders and regulations that are necessary for the carrying out of the functions of the executive government.
* Summon Parliament: The President has the power to summon Parliament to meet in session.
Other Duties and Functions
In addition to the powers listed above, the President also has a number of other duties and functions, including:
* Representing Singapore Abroad: The President represents Singapore in international relations and is responsible for receiving foreign dignitaries and ambassadors.
* Attending State Functions: The President attends and presides over state ceremonies and events, such as the National Day Parade.
* Awarding Honours and Awards: The President awards state honours and awards, such as the Order of Temasek and the Public Service Medal.
* Constitutional Responsibility: The President has a general responsibility to uphold the Constitution of Singapore and to ensure that the laws of the country are faithfully executed.
