RV Parks Along Interstate 71 in Kentucky

Interstate 71 is a north-to-south highway that runs from Kentucky through Ohio. The highway starts east of Louisville and keeps on going through northern Kentucky. A number of state parks and RV campgrounds are located close to or right off of the road. Recreational vehicle campers who want to find campsites where they can relax while still having easy access to travel will find many places to stay along Interstate 71.
  1. Big Bone Lick State Park

    • Big Bone Lick State Park is located off I-71 in the city of Union. The park has 62 campsites, all with grills and utility connections. The park's central service building offers restrooms, laundry rooms and shower facilities. Big Bone Lick Park has its own convenience store at the park, so you won't have leave and come back again in order to buy a few snacks or supplies.

      The park is open year-round, but the store is closed from November through March. Big Bone Lick State Park also has a nature center, museum, gift shop and discovery trail. Guests with a valid Kentucky state fishing license can fish in the park's 7.5-acre lake. The park also has tennis, hiking trails, volleyball, basketball, softball and horseshoe pits, as well as an 18-hole golf course.

      Campground guests can also swim in the park swimming pool. Reservations can be made through the Kentucky State Parks website.

    General Butler State Resort Park

    • Also located right off Interstate 71 is General Butler State Resort Park. General Butler State Resort has 111 campsites. The park is larger than Big Bone Lick and has two central service buildings, one with laundry facilities.

      The park is open year-round, but some sites might not be available for camping during the winter. The park also has a lodge and 24 one-, two- and three-bedroom cabin rentals, as well as a restaurant.

      General Butler State Resort Park features the Butler-Turpin State Historic House, boating, a nine-hole golf course, nature trails, mountain biking and a swimming pool. Guests can also fish on 30-acre Butler Lake.

      The General Butler Conference Center has enough room for large meetings or events for up to 400 people sitting banquet-style, or 750 people sitting theater-style.

    Oak Creek Campground

    • Oak Creek Campground is located off I-71 in the city of Walton. The park has 99 camping sites. Four are for tent camping, 93 are back-in sites and fix are pull-throughs. Spaces include water and electrical hookups, cable TV and wireless Internet access.

      The park is close to fishing, golf courses, the Kentucky Speedway and St. Mary's Cathedral. Oak Creek is open year-round and has daily, weekly and monthly rates. Members of Good Sam RV Club and AAA receive discounts.
