RV Parks on Interstate 40 in New Mexico

Interstate 40 traverses 342 miles across Northern New Mexico, following the now defunct historic Route 66, which was America's first transcontinental highway.     • Gallup is located just 25 miles east of the Arizona border. This city of approximately 20,000 people is the hub of trade and commerce for the Four Corners Region, and the largest Native American ceremonial center in the Southwest according to desertusa.com. Local tribes include Navajo, Zuni and Hopi, as well as the Acoma and Laguna peoples. Gallup is located on historic Route 66, and has a 12-block downtown area with Indian art galleries, trading posts and restaurants.

      USA RV Park is located at Interstate 40's Exit 16. This 117-site campground features spacious pull-through sites with full hookups including water, sewer and 30 or 50-amp electricity.     Albuquerque--High Desert RV Park

    • Albuquerque holds the distinction of being both the site of the oldest farming civilization on the North American continent (founded in 1706) and also the highest metropolitan city in America. Albuquerque is situated at 5,312 feet above sea level, surpassing the "Mile High" city of Denver by just 32 feet. Visitors to the area shouldn't miss Albuquerque's Old Town District, an historic area with more than 150 shops, restaurants, galleries and artist studios that showcase the colorful Southwest peoples and scenery of the region.

      High Desert RV Park, located on the west side of Albuquerque at Interstate 40's Exit 149, features 75 big rig-friendly, full hookup RV sites with picnic tables, water, sewer and 30 or 50-amp electricity.     Tucumcari KOA

    • Travelers crossing New Mexico on Interstate 40 continue following the original Route 66 highway, which concludes its New Mexico segment near Tucumcari. Since 1926 when Route 66 was completed, Tucumcari has remained a popular overnight stop for travelers, as it is the largest city between Amarillo, Texas, and Albuquerque, New Mexico.

      The Tucumcari KOA is a large, clean RV park located on the frontage road that parallels Interstate 40, at Exit 335. Facilities include large pull-through sites measuring 12-by-75 feet. Amenities include 30 or 50-amp electricity, free cable television, wireless Internet, grassy areas and picnic tables.
