When was Miami founded?

Miami was founded on July 28, 1896, by Julia Tuttle and William Brickell. Tuttle owned a large area of land in what is now Miami and wanted to develop it. She convinced Brickell, a former railroad executive, to invest in her plans. Together, they laid out the original streets of Miami and began selling lots.
