The Strait of Magellan is a narrow body of water that lies between the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. It is located at the southern tip of South America and separates the mainland of South America from Tierra del Fuego. The Strait of Magellan was first discovered by Ferdinand Magellan in 1520 and was an important trade route between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans until the Panama Canal was built in 1914.
