How many major areas is the ocean on earth divided into?

The world's ocean is traditionally divided into four major areas or oceans namely :

- The Pacific Ocean

- The Atlantic Ocean

- The Indian Ocean

- The Arctic Ocean

However , some oceanographers also recognize a fifth ocean called the Southern Ocean, also known as the Antarctic Ocean which surrounds Antarctica.
