The Pacific Ocean is not on the east coast of Asia. Instead, the eastern coastline of Asia borders the Sea of Japan and the East China Sea.
These marginal seas lie to the west of the Pacific Ocean. The Pacific itself extends further east, beyond the island chains (such as Japan, the Philippines, and the Mariana Islands) that separate it from the Asian continental shelf.
