What are the five types of oceans?

There are not five types of oceans. There is only one global ocean, which makes up about 71% of Earth's surface and is divided into various named regions or oceans. These regions are:

1. Pacific Ocean: The largest and deepest ocean, covering approximately 30% of Earth's surface.

2. Atlantic Ocean: The second largest ocean, located between the Americas and Europe/Africa.

3. Indian Ocean: The third largest ocean, situated between Africa, Asia, and Australia.

4. Southern (or Antarctic) Ocean: Surrounding Antarctica, it is often considered the fourth ocean or included as part of the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans.

5. Arctic Ocean: The smallest and shallowest ocean, located at the top of the globe around the Arctic Circle.

These regions are commonly referred to as "oceans," but they are all connected and form the continuous global ocean system.
