Water Bodies Bordering Missouri

Missouri's borders are defined largely by major rivers:

  • Mississippi River – Forms the entire eastern border with Illinois, Kentucky, and Tennessee.
  • Missouri River – Flows across the state west-to-east, forming part of the northern border with Nebraska and Kansas before joining the Mississippi near St. Louis.
  • St. Francis River – Forms a segment of the southeastern border with Arkansas.
  • Des Moines River – Brief section on the northern border with Iowa.

Additionally, numerous lakes and reservoirs (Lake of the Ozarks, Table Rock Lake, Truman Reservoir, Stockton Lake) and smaller rivers (Gasconade, Osage, Current, Meramec) enrich the state's water resources.
