Are the Channel Islands Closer to Britain or France?

The Channel Islands (Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, Sark, Herm) are closer to France. They lie in the English Channel, approximately:

• 12 miles (19 km) off the Normandy coast of France.
• 60–80 miles (100–130 km) off the south coast of England.

Though they are British Crown Dependencies (not part of the UK), geographically they are much nearer to the French mainland.
