What are the aims and objectives of British police?

The aims and objectives of the British police, as set out in the Police Reform Act (2002) are:

* To uphold the law.

* To protect life and property.

* To prevent crime.

* To detect and bring to justice offenders against the law.

* To be the people's 'friend' and helper.

A further set of statutory objectives given in the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 are:

* To work in partnership with communities and other organisations to promote community safety.

* To reduce re-offending by offenders against the law.

* To work in partnership with bodies involved in youth justice to prevent or reduce youth crime.
