Why is Jaipur called the Pink City?

Jaipur is also referred to as the Pink City. It all begins with the color pink; as pink signifies happiness, prosperity, and warmth, Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh II painted the Jaipur City walls and many buildings bright pink to create a joyous welcome for Prince Edward VII's (Edward VIII) arrival in 1876. Since then, most homes and businesses across the old city have followed the tradition and retained the pink color palette, thereby preserving their heritage charm.
